The Pathe people offer a revealing glimpse of backstage life in this one-reel seriocomedy. The film opens during the performance of a play, as the well-dressed actors, backed up by splendiferous surroundings, partake of a sumptuous banquet. The scene then shifts to a few hours after the performance. The same actors, now shabbily garbed, huddle around a dirty tablecloth at a greasy spoon restaurant, wolfing down a most unappetizing repast. Not surprisingly, this "comedy of contrasts" persists throughout the film. A carefree stage dancer is shown at home taking care of a squalling infant, while an actress playing the part of a ragged street waif is shown backstage being feted with champagne by a cotillion of nattily attired "Stage Door Johnnies."
