A good children's film that does not cater to fantasies about the tooth fairy or Santa Claus, Legy Mindhalalig is by one of Hungary's better directors, Laszlo Ranody. The story is set in the 1930s and features a twelve-year-old boy who has been awarded a scholarship to go to school. He is smart and swift and does his best to please at school but as it turns out, fate is against him. He gets embroiled in delivering missives between two lovers and later is accused of a theft (he is innocent). As the adult world seems to pass judgment on him without due process, the young lad learns a lot about life and the impermanence of good fortune.
