This confusing, muddled Lebanese drama by novice director Georges M. Nasser focuses on the difficult coming of age of a thirteen-year-old boy. The lad is surrounded by violence in many forms -- a jarring part of the story -- one segment of which has his brother put in jail for killing a man in a jealous rage. The victim was a rival for the affections of a woman who seems to be rather free with her favors. The young lad soon discovers that the woman is now the mistress of the very man who runs an important local company -- the source of employment for just about everyone in the vicinity. After several beatings and more than enough experiences that teach him men and women can be self-serving and cruel, the young boy is ready for adulthood in his world.
