Filmed over four years time (whenever money was available), this slice of life in an impoverished Casablanca neighborhood weaves the stories of several residents in and out of a colorful tapestry involving a barber who goes to jail for a friend. When the barber gets out, his young wife has found someone else more monetarily endowed to support her in the manner to which she was never accustomed. So the barber leaves his home, fights with the friend he went to jail for, commits some minor thefts, drifts into despair, and continues on with his life. The language, customs, and setting, as well as the characters in this loosely-woven narrative (broken up into segments that each bear a name of one of the characters) entertainingly depict the lively neighborhood in which the director Mohamed Reggab once lived.
