Land of Promise is a feature-length documentary devoted to contemporary Palestine (some dozen years before the creation of the state of Israel). There are no professional actors, nor any real plotline: filmmaker David Lehmann has chosen an anecdotal approach to his material, recording the day-to-day existence of the European Jewish refugees who've chosen to emigrate to the Holy Land. Emphasis is placed on the settler's rapidity and tenacity in creating a livable community in the middle of the desert. The narration, by David Ross, is spoken in English, but a Yiddish-language version was simultaneously prepared. Serving as musical director of Land of Promise was Paramount contractee Boris Morros, who later became a busy film producer in his own right.
