The maiden effort of the Alliance Film Corporation was the four-reel The Key to Yesterday. Based on a novel by Charles Neville Buck, the film starred popular leading man Carlyle Blackwell in what amounted to a dual role. While taking part in the Mexican revolution, Blackwell suffers an injury which causes him to lose his memory. The only clue to his previous existence is the key to an apartment in Paris. Heading to the City of Light, Blackwell locates the apartment and opens the door, whereupon all of his past memories rush back like a torrent. Rather uncomfortably, the hero realizes that he has pledged eternal devotion to a beautiful young girl, even though he already has a wife somewhere in America. A plot-resolving deathbed scene enables the amnesiac hero to enjoy a happy ending with his new love.
