Lead singer for pop band Kome Kome Club, Tatsuya Ishii directs this eco-drama about Japan's legendary kappa, or water spirits. Set in 1953, the film centers on Yuka (Keisuke Funakoshi), a ten-year old lad who discovers a family of kappa in the lake near where he lives. The father of the sprites works on his invention as the mother and the son live in an underwater cave. Though there is an old story claiming that the kappa are protecting the village, a band of thickheaded locals are out to destroy these supernatural beings. Tatsuya Fuji of In the Realm of the Senses fame also appears.
