Juvenilia was the first major production to emanate from the film company formed by prominent Argentine movie critic Manuel Pena Rodriguez. Set in 19th-century Bueno Aires, the story parallels the growth and expansion of that city with the professional progress of Professor Jacques (Jose Olarra). Critics compared the film to the Anglo-American production Goodbye Mr. Chips, and not without good reason. Thanks to a paucity of foreign films in the American market, Juvenilia was able to secure bookings in selected U.S. cities. The film was based on a popular novel by Miguel Kane.
