In 1942, an Amsterdam family, including 5-year-old Jonah (Luke Petterson) and his mother (Juliet Aubrey) and father (Jean-Hugues Anglade), are forced into a concentration camp as the Nazi occupation of Holland begins. As his parents suffer from mental and physical debilitations, the boy endeavors to make friends and find a place of safety within the camp. And as World War II rages on, Jonah does his best to maintain the optimism instilled in him by his mother during earlier, brighter times.
