The Catskill Mountains and the Adirondacks provided the backdrop for this three-reel Eclair melodrama. The titular Jacques is a raw-boned, ingenuous young man, born and raised in the arboreal wilds of Canada. To supplement his income as a trapper, Jacques runs a profitable bootlegging business on the side. Upon falling in love with the daughter of a Canadian mountie, Jacques vows to change his crooked ways -- but before he can do so, he is shot in the eye by the girl's father. The remainder of the film is truly an "eye for an eye" affair, culminating in a desperate battle between Jacques and the Mountie in a raging mountain stream.
