This three-reel French drama was adapted from the Alphonse Daudet novel of the same name. The ne'er-do-well hero loves 'em and leaves 'em during most of the picture, only pay for his profligacy in the closing scenes. Variety complained that the main character's climactic deathbed scene was too drawn out and morbid. Also singled out for condemnation was a wintry "exterior" scene, in which soap flakes were all too obviously substituted for snow. Jack is now considered a "lost" film, but judging by contemporary reviews it does not warrant a rediscovery.
