Florence Reed stars in this low-budget melodrama filmed in and around New York City. She plays Laura West, whose engagement to Howard Hollister (Gareth Hughes) is threatened by the arrival of Stephen Rhodes (Lionel Atwill), Howard's friend who has become a convert to the worship of Gaia, the Eternal Mother. Visiting Stephen at his sanctuary, Laura is all but converted to the mysterious religion herself, a fact that provokes a terrible quarrel with Howard after their marriage. In a dream, Laura once again goes to the sanctuary and is initiated into Stephen's religion. She bears a child, which Stephen, citing Gaia, forces her to abandon. She flees, but returns when Stephen threatens to kill the baby. Awakening from her nightmare, Laura promises to forget all about the religion of Gaia and becomes instead a dutiful wife and mother. Produced in 1920, Indiscretion enjoyed a brief release that year under the title The Eternal Mother.
