Laura Jean Libbey, the female equivalent to Horatio Alger, was responsible for the novel on which In a Moment of Temptation was based. Accused of a crime she didn't commit, heroine Polly (Charlotte Stevens) gives up protesting her innocence and elects to be as bad as everyone says she is. Falling in with a cheap crook, Polly participates in the burglary of a Park Avenue mansion. But Timothy Gage (Tom Ricketts), the elderly, wheelchair-bound master of the house, takes pity on the girl and hires her as a domestic. He even arranges for Polly to marry handsome hero Ed (Grant Withers), who was previously engaged to Gage's snotty niece Alice (Marie Walcamp). In the end, the heroine triumphs over adversity for no other reason than she's basically a nice kid. Comedian Kit Guard delivers the film's best performance as Polly's partner in crime.
