The director of this documentary, himself a Native American, guides this exploration of Hollywood's depiction of Indians, going all the way back to silent cowboy flicks and continuing through to the near-present with films like Dancing With Wolves and A Man Called Horse. One particularly galling feature of many films (including these last two) is their use of sacred practices of America's indigenous people to provide window dressing for essentially banal entertainments. The director provides his own form of wry comment on this banality in segments following a Native American woman during her visit to her dentist's office.
