This telling documentary was filmed in the southern Brazilian state of Para where a miserably impoverished group of people are trying to bring about a land reform that would lessen the power of the land barons in the region. The objective is for these poor to have more autonomy. Several Catholic priests and a nun are interviewed and explain the harsh conditions of the peasants as well as the brutality of the gunmen, soldiers, or police who are hired by the landlords to go into the forest and arrest, punish, or kill those who want land reform. An interview with an alleged gunman after he is released from jail for lack of evidence reveals the underlying barbarism of the men brought in to kill the peasants.
