Ten boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 15 share their thoughts about growing up in Guatemala and El Salvador during the two countries' ongoing wars and bloodshed. Each child discusses violence, kidnappings, and murder as though they're commonplace events in all people's lives. The children also talk about being separated from various family members, seeing their homes destroyed, and fleeing to mountainous regions for greater safety. Though they've witnessed many gruesome events, the children still eagerly discuss their future goals and dreams.
