Blending dramatic and documentary techniques, this Italian drama is built upon a powerful metaphor for Italy's attempts to come to terms with the nation's disastrous embrace of fascism in the 1930s and 1940s. A pair of elderly men, who have known each other most of their lives, fought together in a Partisan resistance group during World War II; they were among the only survivors when their cadre of Partisan troops was ambushed by an especially bloodthirsty Fascist officer. Today, the two men live in a retirement home where a new patient has just joined their number, a feeble man who suffered a stroke during a long stay in prison. In time, the two former Partisans realize the new patient is the Fascist officer who butchered their comrades years ago, and the men begin plotting ways to extract their own justice against him. I Nostri Anni was the first feature film from director Daniele Gaglianone, whose work earned the CinemAvvenire Award at the 2000 Torino International Festival Of Young Cinema.
