Pioneering filmmaker Dimitris Gaziadis directed this absorbing melodrama, the final silent film to be made in Greece. Set in 1922, the story concerns Andreas (Periklis Christoforidis) and Pavlos (Edmond Furst), two Greek soldiers stationed in Asia Minor and attempting to return home to their village. Severely wounded, Andreas tells Pavlos to go on without him and take care of his wife, Maria (Aliki Ieronimou). Pavlos survives the brutal trek and gets back home, honoring his promise to look after Maria and eventually, as the two are brought close by the memory of Andreas, marrying her. There's just one problem. Andreas isn't dead, and when he finally makes it back to the village in the middle of a blinding storm, he discovers that Pavlos has married Maria. Furious and heartbroken, Andreas decides that he must kill them both, but as he peers in the window of his house, he sees that the couple is very happy. Despite his anguish, Andreas simply turns around and vanishes into the storm, leaving the newlyweds to their life together. Dimitris Tsakiris and Ditta Parlo co-star.
