The title is the whole story in this Pathe "educational" half-reel. For the purposes of the film, an actual perfume factory was "invaded" by the cameramen, offering the viewer a rare glimpse at a fascinating, complex manufacturing process. Unfortunately, the film wasn't fascinating enough to suit the tastes of the critic for Variety. This writer was underwhelmed by the film, saying in effect that when you've seen one perfume bottle, you've seen them all. Undoubtedly, How French Perfumes Are Made would prove more interesting to audiences of the 1990s, if only to compare turn-of-the-century manufacturing processes to present-day techniques.
