Squire Glenarm (George Backus) lives in a strange house with hidden passageways and secret rooms. He dotes on his grandson, Jack (Harry Mestayer), and hopes that he will marry the pretty girl next door, Marian Evans (Grace Darmond). But Jack has been seduced by the bright lights of the big city and prefers to stay there. To get him home, Glenarm plays dead and leaves a will that gives Jack his fortune only if he stays in seclusion at the Squire's house for a year. Jack agrees to the terms and moves in with his friend Larry Donovan (Edgar Nelson). But there is treachery afoot in the form of lawyer Arthur Pickering (John Charles), who is trying to find the securities which are hidden in the house. He also locates Jack's city inamorata, Carmen, and convinces her to come out and cause trouble. But just when things get too strange and mysterious, Squire Glenarm appears from behind a panel, catches the crooked lawyer and happily sees Jack and Marian unite. This picture was based on the popular novel by Meredith Nicholson, which was filmed as a talkie in 1936.
