"Hoodoo" was slang for a jinx in 1910. In this Pathe comedy, a foolhardy young man purchases a small statue of an Indian god. Despite warnings that bad luck will befall the owner of the statue, the hero carries it around with him at all times. Sure enough, the dire prophecies come true, and by the time the film is half over the luckless protagonist is trying to palm off the statue to some other sucker. In typical Pathe fashion, the story ends with a slapstick chase through the streets of Paris, with apparently everyone in town pursuing the benighted "hoodoo."
