After 15 years of marriage, Elke (Catherine Flemming) and Arnold (Michael Kind) have experienced many changes that have tested their relationship. Most recently is the switch of primary breadwinner from Arnold to Elke, which has caused no small amount of concern for Arnold and his wounded pride. Before Germany was reunited, Arnold was a successful engineer and his chief financial accomplishment -- in his eyes, at least -- was the purchase of the rural vacation house at which the couple had spent most of their summers. Now that Arnold is unemployed, Elke has convinced him to sell it, but not before the couple settles into the cabin for one last overnight stay. By dumb luck, that also is the night that a couple of thieves break into the house and ransack it. With most of the Elke and Arnold's belongings having already been relocated, the thieves are left with very little to steal -- so they tie the couple up and steal Arnold's car. As Elke begins formulating a plan to use the break-in to get a little extra cash out of their insurance carrier, the thieves unexpectedly and inexplicably return.
