From Sankofa Film and Video, this short drama tells the story of immigrant Miriam, who works in an airport and lives in a cramped house with her children. Miriam feels isolated and disconnected from her African roots, so she builds a mud hut in her garden where she finds a sort of personal refuge from the dreariness of her difficult life and teaches her daughter Fumi to discover her own African heritage. This film has been featured at the Cannes Film Festival and Toronto Film Festival, and has received numerous awards, including Best Short Film at the Festival Cinema Africano and Best Short Film for the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.
