Director Vit Janecek helms this biographical documentary on Jaroslav Sabata, one of the most esteemed and revered of all left-wing Czech ideologues. Sabata has the distinction of living in Czechoslovakia (and, after the fall of the U.S.S.R., the Czech Republic) through several crucial political periods that witnessed "tentpole" events, including Charter 77, the Prague Spring, the split of the Brno-based Civic Forum and the division of Czechoslovakia. Janecek's film intercuts biographical material on Janecek (and biographical dialogues with him) with his own candid and firsthand recollections of experiencing such tumultuous events.
