The reviewer for Variety complained that the three-reel Whitman production His Flesh and Blood was overstocked with explanatory subtitles, which saved the producers the trouble of conveying the story in visual terms. Eloping with a handsome lawyer, a farm girl proves to be a devoted wife and mother. Even so, the inevitable Other Man intrudes upon the hero and heroine's domestic bliss. Though totally blameless, the wife is ejected from the house by her jealous husband. Swearing revenge, the wife sneaks back into her home and kidnaps her own baby. Several years pass, during which time the child grows up to be a roughneck "boy of the streets." Meanwhile, the boy's lawyer father has risen to the position of District Attorney. You know what's coming next -- the DA sentences the boy to prison, never realizing that the lad is his own "flesh and blood."
