Freckle-faced juvenile star Wesley Barry was on a roll when he appeared in this Warner Brothers "special" -- his last several films had all been moneymakers. This film was no exception. Mickey Callahan (Barry) idolizes his policeman father (Will R. Walling). So when pop is killed by a notorious crook known only as "the Shadow" (Philo McCullough, always a good villain), Mickey vows to track him down. Disguised as a messenger boy, he enlists the help of the janitor. The boy's adventures take him to a theater, where he uncovers a plot to kidnap the star actress. Along with foiling the plot -- which is also the Shadow's doing -- Mickey instigates a romance between chorus girl Betty Barron (Marie Prevost) and reporter Philip Trent (Jack Mulhall). Mickey is the one responsible for bringing the Shadow to justice, and he brings home a five-thousand-dollar reward to his mother (Aggie Heron).
