Originally released as Aux Jardins de Murcie, Heritage was based on Maria del Carmen, a play by Feliu Codina. Filmed entirely on location in Spain, the story concerns an ongoing battle between greedy landowners and poor farmers over water rights. Amidst this struggle blooms a love affair between peon leader Pencho (Vital) and farm girl Maria (Juanita Montenegro). When Xavier (Hubert Prelier) the son of the town's richest citizen, is nearly killed in a knife battle, the plot takes a brand new twist. Burying her differences with the landed gentry, Maria nurses Xavier back to health, leading to romance. The return of Pencho after a long and unexplained absence brings the story to a verbose and not altogether satisfying conclusion.
