Madame Kromoff has two children, Mary (L.M. Coronova), and a foster daughter, Nita (Vera V. Colodna). At a party, the two girls meet Prince Baskoff (V.A. Polonsky), and he falls for the pretty Nita. However, he marries Mary because of her sizable dowry, and Nita marries a banker, Bartinsky. The Prince, who was intimate with Nita before his marriage, continues the affair and squanders his wife's money. When he runs out of her funds, he forges Bartinsky's name on some notes. Bartinsky finally catches Nita with the Prince and threatens to have him arrested for his forgeries. But Madame Kromoff asks to speak to him first. She hands the Prince a gun and tells him that he should be honorable and shoot himself. When he laughs at her suggestion, she shoots him herself and places the gun in his dead hands.
