Losing his job after participating in a labor strike, a young husband is unable to afford to buy medicine for his ailing wife. Pounding the pavements in search of work, the hero makes the acquaintance of a racetrack tout, likewise in dire financial straits. The two men cook up a plan to raise some quick money; heading to the park, they stage a phony suicide attempt to tug at the heartstrings of the passersby. Instead of splitting the money donated by the gullible onlookers, the tout gives every penny to the young man, who proceeds to purchase the necessary medicine. The tout's good deeds are finally awarded when a tip on a "long shot" pays off.
