Metro leading man Emmett Corrigan starred in this 5-reel melodrama. A wealthy man is killed, and the guilty party is his weak-willed son (Crauford Kent). Hoping to spare himself the indignity of imprisonment and/or execution, the son prevails upon his older half-brother (Corrigan) to take the blame for the murder. The older man incredibly agrees, claiming that he did the dirty deed for the sake of his long-suffering stepmother. Sentenced to life imprisonment, our hero is eventually made a trusty because of his good behavior. Even when given the opportunity to escape, he is too honorable to take advantage of it. Ultimately, the younger brother confesses as he lies dying, whereupon the older sibling is released, much to the delight of the warden's daughter, who has fallen in love with him. The heroine was played by Mary Martin -- who, we hasten to add, was not the Mary Martin, who was approximately 3 years old at the time.
