With a title like this one, you expect to see a star like John Barrymore, Antonio Moreno, or at the very least Eugene O'Brien, but the role of Jean Paurel, opera baritone and great lover, is played by the little-known John Sainpolis. Paurel has innumerable conquests to his name, but the day comes when he loses his voice -- just about the same time that he decides to settle down. The girl of his choice is the sweetheart of the new, young baritone around town -- not that that matters to the Great Lover. But it turns out that the younger man is actually Paurel's son, and his mother, Bianca (Alice Hollister), goes to Paurel and begs him to leave the lovers alone. Paurel complies, and although he retires from the stage, he has his eye on his next romantic victim. This picture was based on the stage play by Frederick and Fanny Hatton -- unfortunately its witty dialogue could not be transferred to the silent screen.
