Even as early as 1909, the name "Podunk" was evocative of a backward rural community, populated with rubes and morons. In this Gaumont comedy, the town of Podunk is all agog when it is announced that a statue is to be erected in the village square. During the unveiling ceremony, it is revealed that the statue consists of five marble figures, frozen in a heroic pose. But when a clumsy electrician crosses the wrong wires, the figures suddenly come to life, dancing about and terrorizing the populace. The most fearsome of the five figures is an Amazonian woman, who sets about to "capture" a husband, laying waste to Podunk in the process.
