Arguably the greatest professional wrestler of his time, Frank Gotch was a "draw" wherever he played. With this in mind, enterprising film producer W. W. Wittig committed to celluloid the first exhibition match between Gotch and the equally impressive George Hackenschmidt. The film ran some 1,100 feet, or about 15 minutes' running time. The Gotch-Hackenschmidt match also yielded another 2,300 feet of film, which was released as a separate short subject. Compared with today's testosterone-charged WWF and WCW grapplers, even such battling behemoths as Frank Gotch seem positively meek and mild-mannered when seen today.
