German director Jörg Siepmann and his film crew follow schizophrenic musician Wesley Willis and a German punk band named die Goldenen Zitronen ("the Golden Lemons") as they tour the American Southwest while Willis wages war with his various and sundry mental problems in the 2003 music documentary Golden Lemons. While on-stage, the mammothly proportioned Chicago native Willis barks out his bizarre, musically simplistic rock stylings more as a therapeutic exercise than as a rock performance. Adding to the surrealistic tone of the tour are the Lemons, whose Germanic punk only further confuses the vast majority of the concert attendees. What follows is a journey through artistic inspiration, as traveled by a artist with chronic mental disorders. Golden Lemons was selected for inclusion in the 2003 Berlin International Film Festival.
