This feature-length WWI documentary was also released as New York Troops in the World War. Drawn from the archives of the Signal Corps, the film concentrates on the exploits of the Rainbow Division of New York State, in the Argonne and elsewhere. Likewise given screen attention is the fabled "Lost Batallion," which had been extensively represented in earlier wartime documentaries. At the time of its release, Gold Chevrons was praised for its realism, especially in its graphic shots of wounded American doughboys and German POWs. For its New York opening, the film was accompanied with a "live" lecture by Congressional Medal of Honor winner Pvt. Clayton K. Stack.
