The "Little War Bride" of the title is Gesuzza, played by A. Bellia. Set in 1860 during Italy's struggle for unification and independence, the film depicts Gesuzza as the Joan of Arc of her day. Absolutely fearless, she is willing to lay down her life at a moment's notice on behalf of her idol, Italian patriot Giuseppe Garibaldi. The story concludes with a thrilling battlefield confrontation between the Sicilians and the Bourbons. Gesuzza la Spose Garibaldina was presumably filmed at the command of Benito Mussolini, who liked to regard himself as the Garibaldi of the 20th century.
