Garlic and Watermelons tells the story of Prokopis, a Greek man of Roma heritage, also known as Gypsy. He is a member of a tight-knit community that has inhabited its ramshackle village since it was built by Roma hands 40 years before, but now in the shadow of the Olympic stadium, it is about to be leveled to make way for a parking lot. Prokopis sells produce like garlic, watermelons and potatoes from the back of his truck, an occupation that offers him and his family little security as the chaos and fanfare of the Olympics approach, and they search for a new home.
