Cory Aquino's acession to power in the Philippines in the mid-1980s sparked a new level of hope for social improvements among that country's women, and also led to the founding of a nationwide women's organization, Gabriela. This Dutch documentary is based on interviews with the members of that group several years after its startup. Gabriela's membership comes from all walks of life, and includes prostitutes, housewives, artists, nuns, students, among many other occupations. Despite a letdown in their expectations as events have moved on, these women now form the core for a "women's lib" movement, Philippines-style, and they have vowed to fight together to improve their lot.
