Dependable leading man Tom Moore carries the lighthearted storyline of From the Ground Up. Moore is cast as a burly skyscraper worker who's a whole lot smarter than he looks. Before he, or we, quite know what is happening, Moore ends up owning the building on which he'd been working, and also wins the hand of Helene Chadwick, the daughter of his ex-employer. Rupert Hughes' screenplay manages to sidestep the anticipated cliches, and the result is a delightful 5 reels' worth of celluloid. Trivia note: the exterior construction scenes were shot on the skeleton of the then-uncompleted Loew's State Theatre in LA.
