This four-reel World Films release was known as For the Honor of Old Glory and Carrying the Stars and Stripes into Mexico. Well, that takes care of reel one! The plot is set in motion when a Mexican spy manages to worm his way into the American army, using forged identification papers to rise to the rank of second lieutenant. Befriending an affable colonel, the spy leads the colonel, his family and his regiment south of the border, and into a trap set by Mexican insurrectionists. Held as hostages to forestall an American invasion, the colonel's family might well have been stood up before a firing squad were it not for the tenacity of his plucky daughter. Clearly designed to stir up resentment against the rebel forces in the then-raging Mexican Civil War, For the Honor of Old Glory succeeded only to raise the hackles of local censorship boards, who objected to the film's excessive violence and its "disrespectful" treatment of the American flag.
