This Selig melodrama was set during the American Revolution. Displaying loyalty to the rebel cause above and beyond the call of duty, the heroine willingly sacrifices her life so that others might live. Fighting back his tears, the girl's father drags her bloodied corpse to the battlefield as an inspiration for the Colonial troops. Though the film was well produced and exceptionally well photographed, audiences were reportedly repelled and disgusted by the tragic denouement; so was the critic for Variety, who, evidently in need of a copy editor, dismissed the picture as "grewsome."
