Lubin's Foiled was originally released on a split reel with the same company's A Servant's Revenge. Fired for incompetence, a black servant becomes the primary suspect when the son of his ex-employer is kidnapped. The audience, of course, knows that the servant is innocent, but he has quite a time proving it. By film's end, however, the servant has exonerated himself by rescuing the kidnapped boy, virtually single-handedly. In keeping with theatrical conventions of the era, the "African-American" hero was actually a white man in blackface.
