Mrs. Stanhope (Adele Farrington) is a spendthrift and runs herself into debt. Because of this, she wants her daughter Minerva (Cleo Madison) to marry wealthy financier Alfred Stuart, but she's in love with William Marsden (Hobart Henley). Since she thinks Marsden has money, Mrs. Stanhope allows them to wed, but it turns out that all he has is some copper stock that is apparently worthless. This won't do, so mother tries to bring Stuart back into Minerva's life. This, and Minerva's desire for the nice things she can no longer have, creates a rift between husband and wife. On the evening that Marsden is called away on important business regarding his copper interests, he dumps Minerva. To support herself she is forced to get work as a stenographer. Marsden, meanwhile, has discovered that his stock isn't worthless after all, and he is now extremely wealthy. He has financial power over Stuart and when he comes back to town, a fight breaks out between the two men. Minerva rushes over to stop them, and claims that it was her mother who started all the trouble in the first place. Since Minerva has learned her lesson, she and Marsden are reunited.
