Maite is a young lawyer in Barcelona, specialized in penal law. She is appointed by the court to help a case of confessed homicide, Angel Saavedra, alias "The Writer", who owes his nickname to his job as public writer. He still works, even though he is over 65. He is a veritable living memory bank of History and the stories of the Barcelona's "Chinatown". With no apparent motive, he murdered an old prostitute whose name no-one remembers and who is known in "Chinatown" as La Monos ("The chignons").
During her meetings with Angel to prepare his defense, Maite will discover a world she didn't know existed. Angel won't be needing a very elaborate defense. In fact, the senility that will soon rapidly overcome him will exempt him from all penal responsibility, as well as definitively destroying the "memory" of the area that he had been confiding to Maite.
