The title of this Dutch domestic comedy translates to A Kingdom for a House. The film tries to extract humor out of the postwar European housing shortage, and for the most part succeeds. A blue-collar mother and daughter, left homeless by the war, are given shelter in the home of a wealthy family. Complications ensue when the poor daughter (Ann van Duyn) falls in love with the family's carefree son (Rob de Vries). One of the first feature films produced in Holland since the Liberation, Een Koninkrijk Voor een Huis suffers from a threadbare budget, but the actors are game and the direction is sprightly.
