After 30 years of cranking out yakuza flicks, Toei studios ended its gangster franchise with this two-fisted genre piece. Horai (Hiroki Matsukata) is a seasoned mobster who is finishing up an 18-year prison sentence. Days before his departure, though, someone attacks him with a knife. Thanks to some quick thinking on the part of young punk Kazu (Tatsuya Yamaguchi), Horai survives, though he quickly realizes that the outside world is going to be more perilous that he imaged. True to form of the romantic yakuza, Horai's first act after getting out of jail is to visit the grave of his mentor-in-crime. There he encounters a kimono-clad lass making an offering at a nearby grave. Mistakenly thinking that she is the daughter of the man he killed, he begs forgiveness. The young woman is instead a beautiful jazz singer named Jane (Eriko Tamura) and after a second meeting at a club the two fall in love. At the same time, Horai's former partner Okido (Isao Natsuyaki) -- who became a powerful kingpin while his buddy was taking the rap for their crime -- offers Horai a senior position in his gang. Wanting to go straight, Horai refuses the job and tells Okido that he wants out. Bad blood develops between the two and conflict soon ensues.
