The suggestive title of this Essanay comedy notwithstanding, the "business" embarked upon by the dog has nothing to do with trees or fire hydrants. A hobo establishes a thriving business by gathering up stray dogs and selling them to animal lovers for exorbitant fees. The hobo's last customer is a Jewish businessman, who buys a feisty bull terrier. The animal immediately escapes its leash, leading its new owner on a merry chase. Much of the comedy in the film was predicated upon Jewish stereotypes which would probably seem offensive today.
