Djevojka I Hrast (The Girl and the Oak) was Yugoslavia's entry in the 1955 Berlin Film Festival. Tamara Markovic heads the cast as an attractive orphan lass who attracts the attention of three men. One of her suitors tries to eliminate the competition by killing the most ardent of his rivals. The dead man's siblings chase the killer into the treacherous mountain regions. Meanwhile, Tamara retreats to her favorite oak tree, which she believes is the source of her strength of character. Not exactly toe-tapping entertainment, The Girl and the Oak is a visual feast, thanks to the camerawork of Frano Vodopivec.
