Selig's The Devil, The Servant and the Man was a "picturization" of the popular vaudeville act of the same name. A philandering husband goes out on the town, joining his companions at the local theater, where a performance of a cautionary play called "The Devil" is in progress. The next evening, he escorts a beautiful young lady (not his wife) to another moralistic stage drama, this one titled "The Servant of the House." Falling into a drunken stupor, the husband dreams that the two plays have merged into one -- and that he is the luckless "star" of both. After suffering innumerable torments at the hands of his fellow actors, the hero awakens and, now repentant, rushes back to the arms of his loyal wife.
