Gaumont's Decorated by the Emperor was allegedly based on incidents in the life of Napoleon Bonaparte. After the Napoleonic wars, one of the "little corporal's" generals finds himself in dire financial straits. Unable to pay his rent, he is reduced to selling his war souvenirs. Unfortunately, none of these relics has any real value, save for the medal given to the general by Napoleon himself. Unwilling to part with this treasure, the general lapses into a semi-coma, dreaming of the momentous occasion when Napoleon pinned the medal on his chest. Upon awakening, the old general discovers to his delight that he won't have to sell the medal after all; he'd forgotten that he had a fortune in gold hidden in his old uniform.
